Cape Winelands
Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl
The closest overnight change from the city. Vineyards, small towns and a short return when the weekend is done.
Whale Coast
Hermanus and the coast toward Cape Agulhas
A sea trip rather than a wine trip. Southern right whales use this coast in season. The town is the base, and the cliff path is the walk.
West Coast
The towns up the Atlantic coast
A different shoreline from the peninsula. People go for the villages, the lagoon and a quieter night than the city.
Breede River valley
Robertson and the valley towns
Inland from the whale coast. Farms, river towns and a route that does not follow the sea.
Garden Route
Mossel Bay, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay
A longer trip, still in the Western Cape. Lakes, forest and a coast that is a journey of its own, not a night bolted onto a Cape Town day.
